I saw this costume and loved it. It's just so fluffy!

When the Browncoat Ball 2004 in Chicago was announced, Bryan and I knew we had to go and I knew I had to make this dress. I think this was my first attempt to make something from TV or film. However, the pink just wasn't going to work. I look terrible in pink and I had just finished a project done with a lot of pink and just couldn't deal with more pink. The final straw was that I couldn't find the right fabrics in pink. So, lavendar it is!

I somehow managed to con my mom into helping me make the dress. I made up a template and set her to cutting out the ruffles. I have no clue how many she cut out but it was a lot. Then we took turns hemming all that rufflage. And had to give my serger breaks, she was getting rather hot with the constant serging. Mom didn't get to see it all finished before she had to head back but it would never have gotten done without her.

Oh, and one hint for anyone doing any embroidery with dissolvable stabilizer. If it is indeed necessary for the stabilizer to dissolve away when you're done, check to make sure it will dissolve first. I embroidered one whole sleeve and the belt before discovering that this great new product wouldn't dissolve like the package claimed. It worked out because I wasn't too keen on the embroidery color anyway. At least that's what I keep telling myself. =)

There are a ton of pics just because I always give Bryan the camera. Next event, it's mine...

Browncoat Ball 2004 - won Most Kaylee-fied Dress

And that's likely to be all for the Balls anyway, I've been forbidden from wearing it to the next one.
However, this is probably my favorite costume just because it's such great fun to wear and look at who I've been lucky enough to meet because of it!!
